When it comes to home fencing, vinyl requires the least maintenance out of any other materials. Most vinyl fences are comprised of a non porous material that makes cleaning very easy and allows the structure to be highly durable. Even tho vinyl fencing, it doesn’t mean that it is indestructible. There might be a case where a branch or another item hits your fence causing your to repair it yourself. Luckily, there a few simple ways to repair a vinyl fence.
Clean and Sand
Before you get to repairing the crack or hole in your vinyl fence, you need clean the area completely off all dirt and debris. Clean it with a cloth that is wet with water and a mild dish detergent, rinse it with water, and then dry it with a clean cloth. Next, you want to smooth out the area with medium grit sandpaper. It is critical that your avoid using an electric sander because you can enhance the damage to your vinyl fence.
Fill and Saw
After the hole or crack is prepared properly, you need to fill the area with spray foam to seal it. When using the spray foam, make sure to fill in the area slowly so you can allow the foam to expand. You can stop once the foam begins to protrude out of the hole or crack, and then let it dry overnight. After it is dry, cut off the excess foam with a small hand saw. You need to cut as close to the fence as possible and then use some medium grit sandpaper to smooth out the surface.
Finishing Touches
After you sand the area for the second time, you need to wipe the area with a damp cloth to remove any dirt and foam debris. Once the area is clean, fill in the area using a plastic scraper. Make sure to make the entire space as smooth as possible so it can look aesthetically pleasing. All you have to do is sand the area one last time and paint over newly filled fence post. Now your fence will look like your just installed it.
