Are you ready to install a new aluminum fence at your residential or commercial property? Choosing the right aluminum fence posts is crucial to ensuring that your aluminum fence will last and protect your home for many years. Here are all of the basics that you need to know about the different types of aluminum fence posts and what they are traditionally used for.
How Can You Identify Aluminum Fence Posts?
Every aluminum fence post has routed punches on the side. Look to see where the punches are and what they look like. That is where you will be able to tell which type of aluminum fence post you are looking at.
End Posts
The end post is, you guessed it, designed for the end of your aluminum fence! End posts have punched holes on only one face, instead of both. The end posts are freestanding and traditionally placed up against the side of your building or wherever a simple straight fence ends. As a result, you will not need to purchase more than two end posts for your aluminum fence in most cases.
Line Posts
This type of aluminum fence post has holes on each opposite side. Line posts are traditionally used in the middle of an aluminum fence. Think of line aluminum fence posts as the in-between posts that fill in gaps. Line aluminum fence posts always have two fence connections, one on each side.
Corner Posts
Corner posts have two sets of punches that are 90 degrees away from each other. They are used to help turn the fence to go another direction in the corner spot. Just like line posts, corner aluminum fence posts always have two connections.
Gate End Posts
Like the other type of end post, gate end posts are punched on one side only. Gate end posts are designed to be about twice as thick as other end posts so that they can hold up the gate. If you aren’t sure which end post is which, all it takes is picking it up and you will be able to tell immediately. Gate end aluminum fence posts have one fence connection and one gate connection.
Blank Posts
Blank posts are a little odd since they have no punches on any side. Blank posts are heavy-duty and thick and only used for special situations. One of the few times you will need to use a blank post is when you are mounting a free-standing aluminum gate that is not part of a fence.
