Farm fences are especially significant. Not only do you want to ensure the safety of you and your family, but protecting your livestock matters as well. It’s your livelihood. Each residence and homeowner is different, and so are your fencing needs. Here at Hercules Fence, we offer many residential fences and commercial fences that will suit the needs of anyone that entrusts in us. Here a few beneficial options that work well for farm fences.
Wood Fences
Initially, wood was the best material for farm fences because you could cut and mill right off the farm. Over time, early fence builders decided to use aged, hardwood trees that were easily accessible and could last for a century. Fast forward to today, and unfortunately, these types of trees are no longer available, but what is, is wood that can last for at least two decades with regular maintenance and proper staining. Pressure-treated wood especially, is a fan favorite. Vinyl-coated wood adds to a fence’s lifespan. Ideally, wood fences work for smaller pastures and are super affordable.
Woven Wire Fences
Woven wire fences are an excellent alternative to barbed wire fences and great for farm fences because animals (and farmers) are less likely to get caught up in the wires. Horse owners love woven wire fences because they are less likely to become tangled, and it’s also a very durable fence option. Woven wire fences can last for about 20 years or so, but for regions with a lot of snow, the snow can pull the fence down. If this is the case, then a suggestion is to add heavy-duty wooden posts.
Wire Fences with High Tensile
High-tensile wire fences have two options. There is both a smooth design and a woven wire design. High-tensile is durable and can last for up to 50 years or so. Another advantage is that they don’t require a lot of maintenance. High-tensile wire fences cost some money but save you money as a result of them lasting so long.
PVC Fences
PVC fencing lasts a long time. Like a high-tensile wire fence, they cost more than wood, but their longevity makes it worth it. Homeowners also love that PVC fencing isn’t prone to warping or rotting.
