Northern Virginia can have some pretty rough winters. This winter IS expected to be colder and wield more precipitation than usual, so it’s a good time to be prepared in all areas of home maintenance. If you’re still considering a new fence before winter (remember—fall is a wonderful time for a new fence!), a vinyl fence is one of your best options.
Take a look with us on why a vinyl fence is the fence of choice for areas that can have wet, icy winters.
Vinyl is Strong
In fact, vinyl is much stronger than wood. This is good when it comes to winter weather, because snow and ice can be heavy. When it comes to inches upon inches of wintery precipitation, wood can splinter and buckle beneath its weight. A vinyl fence, however, will hold up against the brutality of winter weather. When it comes to a durable fence, vinyl is definitely a top choice.
No Rot or Rust
Another good thing about vinyl is that it will not rot or rust. Wood can rot in moist climates, and iron or metal can rust. A vinyl fence will do neither. While rot and rust can occur any time of year, winter is especially hard on these two factors. Ice and snow sits and melts slowly, exposing the surface to moisture for longer. With a vinyl fence, you won’t have to worry about either.
Low Maintenance
While you may be prepping your iron or wood fence for winter now, you don’t have to do that for a vinyl fence. A vinyl fence generally needs a good cleaning once a year, but other than that, requires no special winter prep.
