Staining a fence isn’t hard whatsoever. It takes only a few steps to do so. Partaking in upkeep is beneficial and increases the lifespan of your wood fence so that it stays beautiful for years to come. Today we’re going to share some steps with you on how to stain your wood fence. Keep reading!
Step # 1: Examine the Wood Closely
When you examine the wood, you want to look for broken pieces, screws, nails, or staples. You have to remove these things because the surface needs to be smooth. Older fences slow down the staining process because there are often quite a few nails you have to remove. Make sure to sand down areas that are not smooth or could create challenges. It only takes a few moments to smooth the surface.
Step #2: Clean the Wood
Apply a wood cleaner to your fence evenly and safely. After using the cleaning agent, take a bristle brush or a mop to get rid of the debris. Let the wood dry
Step #3: Stain the Wood
Evenly apply the stain using a brush, roller, or sprayer. Make sure to cover the whole surface. If the surface looks stained or uneven, make sure to smooth it out using the tool of your choice.
Step #4: Do Nothing
Let your fence sit for 24 hours, or up to 48 hours if need be. The level of humidity factors into the duration. If it’s very humid, then leaving it alone for 48 hours is probably the better idea.
Step #5: Enjoy Your Beautifully Stained Fence
Now you can take the time to marvel at the beauty of your landscape. Just remember that maintenance is continuous. You should do this process once a year. A common misconception about wooden fences is that they don’t last or aren’t durable. This idea is quite a myth. Trees stay around naturally for a long time because of their durability. Then, you have to consider the fact that we pressure treat our lumber, so that adds to the longevity.
